Ritu Kumar: The Pioneer Of Indian Fashion

India has a long history of garment creation, but it is now considered a prominent and developing fashion sector. Who would have guessed that industry with an annual income of INR 4100 crores would exist in ancient times? Before the 1980s, there were just a few talented designers, one of which being Ritu Kumar.
She is an Indian fashion designer who began her career in a small town near Kolkata, where she impressed people with her hand block printing methods on clothing. With her magnificent creations of Lehengas and Bridal Dresses, Ritu Kumar launched the Era of Fashion Designing.
Ritu Kumar was born in Amritsar but moved to Shimla because of a lack of educational options in her hometown. She attended a convent school there before enrolling in the Lady Irwin College of Delhi as an art history student in the late 1960s.
At this location, she met her husband, Mr. Shashi Kumar, and they married the same year. She afterward proceeded to Briarcliff College in New York to pursue an Art History scholarship.
Ritu has two kids, Amrish and Ashvinkumar. Amrish works alongside Ritu as the CEO of Ritu Kumar's fashion firm, Ritu Kumar, and Ashvin is an Academy Award-nominated film director. Ritu began her profession and family at a very young age and has done an excellent job of balancing both. Ritu also studied museology at a Delhi college to gain a better understanding of ethnic dress and work.
Ritu's journey began in the 1960s when she went to a little village called Serampore in West Bengal while studying museology. She discovered a small colony of unemployed hand block printers in that village. That's when the idea for a tiny business was born, with the goal of providing ideas to printers.
Ritu Kumar has four labels, including "Label," which caters to sophisticated clothing for girls and women. The second of her brands is "Ri," which specializes in bridal and lehenga attire for women. The third brand is "Aarke," which belongs to the women's nightwear category. Last but not least, "Home" is a brand that provides all kinds of home décor and necessities.
Ritu Kumar is well-known for her designs, which have been worn by celebrities such as Princess Diana, Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit Nene, and many others.
Ritu Kumar, one of India's most prominent fashion designers, is a role model and source of inspiration for young people interested in pursuing a career in the fashion industry. She is a successful entrepreneur and a living example of Indian women in this society who are not ruled by males.
